“Only unique people can solve unique problems”
Shawn Smith, founder of PhoeniXperimental, hails from a small town near Washington, D.C. With nearly 20 years of experience in Military and Civilian Non-Destructive Inspection, he has honed his expertise in scientific testing on aircraft. His tenure at Boeing allowed him to channel his creativity and innovation into unique technologies, resulting in multiple patents in Quantum Communication, Electronic Quantum Information Probability Transfer (EQuIPT) and Paint on Thermoelectrics as well as 15 other intellectual properties.
Shawn’s educational background is as diverse as it is robust. His schooling in Engineering, Space Studies for Aerospace Technology, and Non-Destructive Testing in Magnetics, Ultrasonics, and Radiation. Additionally, he possesses an Airframe and Powerplant License. This blend of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and testability has enabled him to tackle challenges and bring tangible solutions to the forefront.
Beyond his professional achievements, Shawn embodies the spirit of a Renaissance Man. He enjoys playing in bands, writing books, and working on a thesis on gravity. His hobbies include horticulture, particularly bonsai trees, ballrooms and Latin dancing, camping, and skiing. Shawn is also dedicated to giving back to the community, having volunteered with homeless and mentally and physically challenged individuals, taught Sunday School, and assisted local pastors with preaching.
Shawn’s diverse work experience spans roles as a Science and Math teacher, Solid Rocket Laboratory, in NDI/NDT, and with renowned companies like Boeing, Northrop Grumman (ATK), and ATS. These roles have equipped him with a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge.
At PhoeniXperimental, Shawn’s mission is to make space more accessible and normalized. He aims to address the current challenges in space technology by focusing on robustness in materials, longevity to eliminate the fear of failure, and durability for working mechanisms. By moving away from the traditional emphasis on extreme precision tolerances and singular failure points, PhoeniXperimental seeks to innovate with practical solutions that embrace the realities of the real world. With a foundation built on morality and integrity, the company is poised to pioneer new frontiers and turn once-daunting challenges into relics of a bygone era.

“Created2BCreative”
Delaware native and son and grandson to two generations of Air Force enlisted Airmen, 49-year-old Eric Richard Satter comes to PhoeniXperiemental with a creative curiosity and an analytical mindset. His college education would be considered as “backwards” as he went to two colleges originally… only to drop out with just one class remaining to graduate… to then, pursue his own career dreams in Nashville, TN… and transform his hobby of designing small business websites into a successful career which has lasted for over 24 years. In 2013, Eric was able to return back to school to earn his Associate of Science Degree in Website Development from Delaware Technical Community College and then went on to Wilmington University to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Media Design – Multimedia in 2015.
Eric has always been fascinated with aerospace and space exploration ever since the tragic disaster of the Space Shuttle Challenger back on January 28, 1986. Also fueled by his fandom of science fiction franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate; Eric believes that mankind should never remain limited to what it can’t do… but continue to dream and strive for what it can do. “If it took 37 years (1984-2021) for the International Space Station to be achieved (from concept to final assembly) … mankind most certainly has the ability to return to the moon and eventually colonize Mars. Hopefully, both will happen in my lifetime.”
Eric’s primary role as Lead Visual Concept Designer at PhoeniXperimental is to make sure that each project is marketed correctly and successfully. “Form must always follow function. Original prototypes of conceptual inventions are typically not pretty. They’re ugly… and rudimentary. But they work… and they function exactly as they were designed. My job… is to take that first prototype and transform it into an artform… but not at the cost of functionality… and then present that prototype in a manner that makes sense to people… and relates to them.”
When Eric is not working on concept projects with PhoeniXperimental or doing freelance projects under his company WowFactor Freelance, he is constantly learning 3D computer modeling programs such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Maya, and ZBrush… while also serving weekly at his local Christian church and playing board games with his church small group.
